asthetik. Software by Ian Bloom, November 2023 to January 2024: a search-and-curation web app built in Flask and React, in 126 dated builds over six weeks. Searches run from a command-line-style box.
Build 0.6483, January 9, 2024, running in your browser. It searched through a Google search engine set to asthetik’s own list of sites. Google is closing that search API (it takes no new customers and ends January 1, 2027), so this copy asks Brave Search over the same list, with this site added.
0.6483’s server had a recommendation algorithm meant to learn from each user’s likes, clicks and bookmarks. Here results are re-ranked from your own clicks only, counted in this browser: 0.6483’s like buttons were on signed-in curator profiles, closed here, and it had no bookmark button yet.
Accounts, messages, the dashboard and payments ran on asthetik’s server and are closed here. Nothing you type is written down on a server: your search goes to Brave Search to be answered, and asthetik’s function keeps it and its results in memory for a day, so the same search doesn’t ask twice.
